Really enjoyed this fic, and how the versions of John and Sherlock you wrote seem to fit so well with BBC Sherlock canon. I especially like Sherlock here - somehow, without giving us his point of view, you showed us the confidence and bravado with which canon-Sherlock handles all human interactions overlaying the insecurity underneath it all that we would expect from him when it comes to dealing with actual relationships between him as he is (not as a persona) and other people. This is just how Sherlock would be when confronting John about their relationship status.
It also got me thinking about the differences between platonic love between best friends and romantic love, and how we would identify those differences. When John asked Sherlock, "Are you in love with me?", I wondered about the answer probably as much as Sherlock was at that moment. I wonder how to define "being in love", or at least how Sherlock would define it. We know how John in your fic would define it - exclusivity, mainly, wanting to be with your "friend" more than any other potential romantic partners, but Sherlock...? It leads to all sorts of interesting questions about the sticky business of emotions.
Anyway, thanks for the great read on a Monday morning!
